George gone too soon
We didn’t even get to really know George. His time at Kindred was way too short – only three months 💔 In this short time, I marvelled at how quickly he integrated into the feathered flock, but sad that none of us got enough time with him.
It is an understatement to say it was sudden. We were blindsided that he was even ill. George didn’t come out for breakfast on Tuesday morning. Instead he was huddled inside the coop and his comb was bright yellow.
We brought him into the house and I called all our bird vets to get George in right away. George was cradled the whole time as we tried to determine what was wrong. He passed away shortly after.
Dr. Aaron phoned to say he was on his way and I gave him the bad news that it was too late.
We really needed to know what happened with George so we decided to get a necropsy (autopsy for animals). We got the results back and I had a conversation with Dr. Ken about the diagnosis.
George had cancer which originated in his testicules. Birds hide their illness because they are prey animals. Right up until his last day, George seemed to be alert, happy and healthy. Dr. Ken said that George actually did not suffer any pain from his cancer which is a blessing ❤️
