In Memory

I’ll never forget in 2020, we had a horrible stretch of losing animals. We’ve had another bad stretch these last three months. It was exhausting. So exhausting, I really haven’t been able to share any of this news til now.
It is very sad when any of our beloved animals pass away but to lose four and then 5 newborn bunnies in such a short time has been an extremely hard time to get through. Not just for me, but for all our volunteers also. Pass through we must. Even if we’re not ready. We have a commitment to all our other animals and a commitment to you to keep going.

We lost Richard in the heat of the summer, then Pickles, then Buffy. Olive Oyl passed away in September. Our animals have a legacy of kindness in helping so many people of all ages face their own struggles, their dark times or their need for connection and love. Thank you Richard, Pickles, Buffy and Olive Oyl for your ability to see through our facades (often this is pretending we are feeling fine) and reaching directly into our hearts. This is the power and magic of the human/animal bond. The farm and all the other animals actually helped comfort me with the loss of my beloved dog Hurley in October. This is why we keep going – to provide a safe, healing place for our community.
When you provide a home and care to so many animals, losses are inevitable and are normal at a farm sanctuary. Especially farmed animals who have been genetically modified to provide more meat, eggs, or dairy than their bodies can sustain. While it is painful, we learn from each one and we are better able to help the next animal in need.
We receive many messages to help farm animals in need. If we were to respond yes to each one, our farm would be overwhelmed. Instead, we are waiting for an animal in need that would honour Richard, Pickles, Buffy and Olive Oyl. There are two new animals that found their way to Kindred and a surprise birth (see stories below) and three more that we are considering.
Writing this post has actually been cathartic for me. Thank you for reading to the end.
And thank you for believing in the mission at Kindred Community Farm Sanctuary, for all your support and encouragement and for being part of our community.
