Sundance’s story of kindness.
This past November, there was an emergency rescue we scrambled to make happen. A couple from our surrounding community came to the farm with an urgent need to find a home for their two roosters – in two days. They are backyard chicken keepers – and of course, after getting chicks – it was discovered that there were two roosters among the flock. No surprise to Kindred – anyone getting chicks is going to have 50% roosters!!! After they started crowing (as Roosters do!), a neighbor complained of the noise. Bylaw was called in, and the owners were given two days’ notice to remove the Roosters or they would have to be confiscated.
Caught in a bind and without much notice – Kindred opened our doors to these Roosters, who through no fault of their own, were faced with a death sentence. One of these handsome fellows we fondly call, Sundance. We took in Sundance and his companion, Butch. Both have settled in well – and sure do share their appreciation with their vocal crowing. We like to think they are saying “thank you” for being their safe, forever home.
