Miss Delaware’s story of kindness.
The story of how Miss Delaware came to Kindred Farm was a long-waited rescue story. It started off last fall (2024) when a woman came by our farm, hoping to speak to someone. She shared that she had many chickens that were her husband’s beloved pets, but he had passed suddenly, leaving them without the care they needed. She was determined to ensure that his beloved pets would continue to receive the love and attention they deserved (in his passing) and she found herself too overwhelmed with the task of caring for so many chickens. At that time, Kindred was unable to take on all of the chickens, but we were considering taking a few at a later date.
We came to know how concerned she was for the birds her husband loved so dearly. She was honouring his legacy by trying to find them the most suitable and best home she possibly could, something he would have been happy with, knowing that his birds were in the best place, aside from being in his care. We welcomed 11 new hens, one being our glamorous Miss Delaware.
Miss Delaware has a beautiful bright red comb and wattle. Her feathers are pristine white, and she is quite the lady. Despite her being nearly blind, Miss Delaware is a survivor and a saint. She is happiest sitting on your lap feeding from her dish, making soft clucking sounds – her way of giving thanks for friendship and support. Our hearts were full when Miss Delaware and all of her special needs found their way to Kindred Farm – knowing we could give her a beautiful life and a new farm family to call her own.
