Aspen
Rescue date: Nov 23, 2024 Favourite Food: Butternut Squash Best friend: WillowMeet Aspen, a Scottish Blackface sheep. Aspen was born in February 2024 and is approximately one year old. Aspen came to the farm with her friend Willow on November 23, 2024. Aspen has a distinctive white face with a few black markings and coarse, long white wool.
Like Willow, Aspen was born as a twin but her sibling was super-sized in the womb and Aspen was miniature. She was suspected to have had a heart condition, which is why she was so small. She had issues the first couple months but with much TLC she got stronger and was elated to come to Kindred Farm Sanctuary with her best friend, Willow.
Aspen is happiest following Willow’s lead, but finds her courage to push Willow out of the way when she oversteps her boundaries! Aspen chases Willow around and is always by her side. Willow is a great source of comfort for Aspen.
One of our volunteers reported that “Aspen is getting much more confident. She approached me with curiosity during my volunteer shift and checked out my phone. Great strides for Aspen! She even stuck her face out for a close up. She is also starting to trust the other volunteers as time goes by, allowing us to hand feed her hay. Aspen is showing her true colours and what a sweet and kind girl she is.”
Once Aspen is more comfortable with human interaction, and settles into her daily life at the farm, she will be able to actively participate in animal-assisted intervention programs, helping to improve the emotional well-being of community members through her gentle presence. Her story of resilience and courage will inspire children and adults who have also faced struggles and have found the courage to trust and have hope.
