Honouring a Legacy

Jul 18, 2025

This is long-awaited rescue story.  It all started in September of last year when a woman (Val) dropped by our farm hoping to speak to someone. It just so happened that Chris and I were both at the farm and were available to hear her story. She shared that she had many chickens that were her husband’s beloved pets but he had suddenly passed away.  Val was determined to ensure that his beloved pets would continue to receive the love and attention they deserved, but she found herself overwhelmed by the task.
We told her we were unable to take that many birds, but would perhaps consider taking a few at a later date.

Chris and I got to know Val over the course of many months. We became so impressed with her level of concern and love for her husband’s birds. She was honouring his legacy by finding them a good home that he would have been happy with. Chris felt that this would be a good fit for Richard who is a wonderful guardian and loves hens.  It would also give much needed relief to Ginger as the only female in Richard’s flock.

In June, we welcomed eleven of his hens. 9 were housed with Richard and Ginger and 2 were housed with Dolly and Emmy Lou.
